Meet the CYLCOMED partner: FHUNJ

The Foundation for Biomedical Research Hospital Infantil Universitario Niño Jesus (FHUNJ) is a non-profit organisation that manages the scientific policy and research of the University Hospital Niño Jesus. Located in Madrid, Spain, it is recognised as a national benchmark, serving as an exemplary model for best practices. FHUNJ is dedicated to advancing science, and its direct, dynamic applicability in the paediatric population. Its core mission is to enhance existing knowledge, foster research development, and implement findings. The Foundation actively supports research in key areas, and encourages the creation of new research lines, especially in their early stages, through both internal collaboration and partnerships with other research centres and groups.

The goal is to establish a common area of biomedical research that translates previous achievements onto the target groups. This, combined with the clinical activities of its researches, ensures that the outcomes are swiftly applied to paediatric patients. In doing so, it fosters a multidisciplinary biomedical research environment focused on patient care, clinical translation, and technology transfer. The Foundation aims to manage clinical research programs and projects, as well as other biomedicine-related activities.

Since its inception, it has been closely involved in public health projects focused on children, both healthy and ill, promoting a healthy lifestyle for them and their families.

The Paediatric Technological Innovation Department of the Foundation focuses on developing new solutions that integrate advanced technologies into existing healthcare practices. It creates innovative tools designed to address emerging security and privacy challenges, particularly following the implementation of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. Cutting-edge technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT) applied to clinical devices, and Machine Learning from diverse data sources, are leveraged to tackle paediatric illnesses.

FHUNJ in CYLCOMED

Within the CYLCOMED project, FHUNJ leads work package 3, and is responsible to collect, analyse, and synthesise project’s requirements, a cybersecurity baseline and guidance improvements. In this regard, FHUNJ is involved in defining a set of requirements for contributing to the overall development of the cybersecurity toolbox. In addition, FHUNJ is also responsible for the Use Case “Telemonitoring for Children”, providing the expertise of a multidisciplinary research group and the experience of working for children for more than a century.
